Brian’s Birthday

leave a comment »

I’m going to say this upfront, this blog post is supposed to be about Brian but it will mostly revolve around Tony.

Tony is one of my favorite people to photograph ever.  I don’t know what it is, but he loves the camera when it’s in my hands.  And I’ll never say no to someone who wants to be photographed.

Ang and I headed out to Ian’s place pretty early before everyone else got there.  It was a bunch of sitting around on the couch and everyone trading stories about how early they had to get up the next morning.

Ian’s been involved in the smirnoff ice craze known as “icing”.  It involves cleverly placing smirnoff ices around the house or somewhere good where the victim inadvertently finds themselves face to face with the bottle.  They must drink the entire thing on the spot and the only way to get out of it is to carry around a smirnoff ice on your person at all times.

“Hey Brian, can you turn off the lights?”

Tony comes crashing into the room and says,”I never understood why people wore union t-shirts around and were so proud to wear them. But here I am repping my shit.”

A few hours later we’re all talking about $13 tattoos and smoking cigarettes outside while the “men” shotgun beers.

We ran into Ismael on our way out.

This was actually two photographs that happened to fit together like this.  I didn’t plan this, honest!

It wasn’t hard to figure out who’s car this was in the parking lot.

Tony had told Angie that he drank at least two 5 hour energies prior to work each morning.  He gets up at 3:30Am, I guess I can’t blame im.

Happy Birthday America!

For me, 4th of July is one of those holidays where it seems that everyone has something super fun that they’re committed to doing and you get stuck deciding which friend of a friend’s barbeque will get you more “likes” on Facebook.  But in recent years, I seem to have joined the club of people that have something going on and I’ve been getting amped on it for weeks prior.   Allow me to explain.

My 4th of July went a little something like this.  Drive to San Diego, drink beers, go to a gay wedding, drink champagne, go to a gay bar for the reception, drink vodka, wake up feeling poorly, drink beeers, play beer pong, drink beers, go to the beach, drink jaeger, go to a bar, drink beers, watch firewoorks, and finally end the night with a giant maarshmallow fight on the beach.  (In case you didn’t notice, I started to slur my words a little there at the end of that sentence.)  My 4th of July was in no way productive but I definitely got a taste of the life I lived just a few years ago.  You see I’m suffering from a little thing called “getting older”.  It’s a disease where alcohol makes you really sick and you get tired way earlier and start to complain about little things that don’t really matter.

Highlight of the weekend definitely revolves around the über personal Rodgriguez/Tabatabai wedding at Balboa Park,  I’ve never seen a wedding go so smoothly nor feel so welcoming and warm.  I honestly felt that there were only people who had known Marc and Daryus for years prior or their families.  and me.  That last part made me feel really special.

All Star of the Weekend Award goes to Sean, the guy who just moved in downstairs under Stacey in Ocean Beach.  Highlights of his reign of terror include telling me “nice mole, it’s so asymmetrical” upon meeting me,  telling Amber that she seems really familiar cause “it’s hard to forget such a loud mouth” and telling Angie after putting on her makeup “that Wow!, she really did need makeup.”  This kid was on a quest to ruin any good first impressions that he may give off.  The best part was that I kept making fun of a Blue Caddy out front that read “OB JERY” on the license plate.  Turns out it was his car and he has a blog about it somewhere. <–Myspace page.  All in all, he’s actually a pretty good guy who just needs some help in figuring out what thoughts he should censor before allowing them to leave his mouth.  I hope he’s still around next time we stay at Stacey’s place.

I had an awesome time meeting all of Angie’s friends from her past and would do it all over again.  Now for the photos!Fence Behind Stacey’s Place in OB.  Pretty much sums up the OB vibe.

Waiting in Line at the Tower of Terror

Went to Disneyland yesterday.  I haven’t been there in quite a while and surprisingly, the lines weren’t that bad.  They’ve really stream-lined the whole wait process and time goes by quickly when you’re hanging out with the best girlfriend in the universe.  Special thanks to Krystin, who got us in the front door without paying the fee.  Happy Valentines Day!!!

Elliot the Cat

A few months back Rob’s girlfriend Jamie took in a kitten from a friend just because no one else would.  A few days later, she offerred him to Angela but sadly, she couldn’t take him.  As the days go by and Elliot lives out his natural life cycle, he justs keeps getting bigger and bigger every time i see him.  He’s like one of those sponges that grow in water only the water glass is Rob’s house and Elliot isn’t a sponge.  On this particular day, he was catnapping on the armchair and was suddenly awakened by a huge flashing machine and a strange man crowding his personal space.

Ian and Rob built a shed…or something like that.

This is something that they’ve been working on for awhile now.  Good old California and it’s relaxed laws affords some people the luxury to do as they please.  Personally, I’m not a fan of such activities but some people need it just to get through the day.  Here’s Ian doing his best “I’ve made it to the Promised Land” pose.
